The Tigertones released their first album in 1948 to great acclaim—one reviewer from The Daily Princetonian declared himself “frankly amazed at the singing of this 12-man ensemble.” He went on to note that “above all, they obviously enjoy what they are doing, and this spirit serves only to improve the purely musical qualities of their singing.”
Since that debut, the Tigertones have continued to capture that same joyful spirit in each of our recordings. Roughly every two years, the group releases a new album, reflecting an ever-evolving sound and repertoire. Each release blends brand-new arrangements with songs that have been part of the group for generations—highlighting both a deep respect for tradition and a commitment to musical innovation.
One throughline throughout all of the Tones’ recent albums is the group’s arrangement of James Taylor’s “Shower the People,” which has appeared on every record since 1989. The song’s chorus implores its listeners to “shower the people you love with love” – a beautiful message of friendship and brotherhood that epitomizes what it means to be a Tigertone.
