We can't wait to hear you!

Tigertones auditions are quick, stress-free, and fun. We want to hear you at your best, so we keep things as easygoing and casual as we can. Below is a step by step for the whole process, so read carefully!

Step 1: Come to an Open House

The open house is a fun, casual atmosphere where you can meet the group, hear us sing, ask questions, enjoy some frosty libations and get a feel for our room, the Toner, the week before your audition.  Come hang out with us!

Open House TBA!

Step 2: Sign Up!

Step 3: Your Audition

Make sure to warm up on your own and be at the Tigertones Room in Foulke Hall at least 5 minutes before your scheduled audition time. Below are the different elements of the audition.

Scales: We'll ask you to sing a few simple scale patterns (first ascending, then descending) to show us your sense of pitch, range, and technique.

Swells: We'll have you sing soft--loud--soft on notes at different points on your range. We want to see your power, breath support, and control. A member of the group will demonstrate so you can get a feel for what we're looking for.

Pitch Matching: Our music director will play a sequence of 3 or 4 notes on the piano for you to sing back to us on your syllable of choice. We'll do this on three different patterns in a comfortable part of your range.

Sight Singing (optional): We'll have you sing through a couple lines of one of our songs to get a sense of your music reading ability. (If you can't read music, that's fine!) This part of the audition really is optional. Can only help.

Prepared Solo: After a starting pitch from the piano, you're off! This final part of the audition is your chance to shine. You can sing any song you want as long as you're ready to sing it without accompaniment. We will play any starting pitch on the piano. You should pick a song that you like and are comfortable with, but, above all, one that showcases your unique and talented voice! Any genre is appropriate, and around one minute is a good length.

If you have any questions about the audition, feel free to get in touch with our Music Director, Logan Emmert, at lemmert@princeton.edu.

Step 4: Relax!

Once you leave your audition, you can take a deep breath! Sometime that night, the group will let you know whether or not you've been given a callback. In the meantime, just relax. You did great!

Step 5: Your Callback

During your callback, you'll be a bona-fide Tigertone for two hours! Along with the current group and fellow callbackees, you'll go through the basics of a regular rehearsal, spend some time with your part, and even learn some of our repertoire. It's super fun and one of the highlights of the audition process.

Late that night, we'll come by to let you know if you got into the group!
